PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- The Alderson-Broaddus women’s soccer team’s senior goalkeeper Kate Laird earned 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 2 Women’s Soccer First Team honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

“Really excited for Kate to be honored for her achievements off the field,” said Head Coach Patrick McGinnis. “As talented as she is on the field, she is equally as great in the classroom.”

The Morgantown, W.Va., native has a 3.7 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in athletic training at A-B. The reigning West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year leads the conference with 10 shutouts and ranks seventh in NCAA Division II history with 38. Laird has played a pivotal roll leading the Battlers to a postseason run and first round bye in hopes of repeating last season’s WVIAC Women’s Soccer Tournament success.

Laird will now move to the next phase of voting that will choose Academic All-America honorees later this month.
