Thursday, October 11, 2012 CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Senior Nicole Lehman’s game-winning shot less than two minutes into Thursday’s West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic conference matchup led Alderson-Broaddus women’s soccer to a 1-0 victory against University of Charleston. The Golden Eagles barely had enough time to lace their cleats as Lehman drove home the game’s deciding goal at 1:41. The score was Lehman’s team-leading sixth of the season. “Another battle this afternoon for sure,” said Head Coach Patrick McGinnis. “I’m really proud of our ability to grind out victories. To go on the road in October and pick up five straight road wins is a testament to our desire and toughness.” Senior goal keeper Kate Laird notched her conference-leading eighth shutout of the year. The Morgantown, W.Va., native collected three saves versus the UC offense which led the contest with 11 shots. UC’s Elyse Surbaugh, Renee Boudreau and Rachel McCormick attempted shots on goal. The Battlers return home to face non-conference opponent Daemen College Saturday at noon. |
