PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Alderson-Broaddus women's soccer fell 3-0 in Thursday evening's season opener against No. 6 California University of Pennsylvania at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium.

Sophomores Bethany Smyda and Chelsea Crockett notched first period goals against the Battlers giving CAL U a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Vulcans (1-0) outshot A-B 15-8 and added a third score in the final period on a corner kick goal by senior Kayla Fransko.

Senior Nicole Lehman accounted for two of the Battlers (0-1) eight shots. The Orlando, Fla., native matched freshman Brittany Wildish's shot total for the team lead in the contest.

The Battlers return to action Saturday as they travel to Clarion, Pa., to face Clarion University in a non-conference matchup beginning at 1 p.m.
