PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Alderson-Broaddus College wrestling Head Coach Mitch Smith is among 45 coaches representing all collegiate divisions that have been selected to receive full scholarships to participate in the fourth annual National Wrestling Coaches Association Coaching Leadership Academy August 1-2 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

"This is a great opportunity to learn from the best coaches in the country," said Smith. "The lessons I am learning are a wide spread of topics from CEO skills, fundraising, marketing and recruiting. I believe this convention will help me as Head Coach of Battler wrestling, start the program from the ground up and help future student-athletes buy into our vision at A-B."

The purpose of the academy is to utilize peer group discussion among college coaches, athletic administrators and CEO’s to develop “best practices” for protecting and strengthening intercollegiate wrestling programs during current economic hardships. The NWCA will also use the forum to better align their programs with educational values.

Dr. Dan Gould, a nationally renowned coaching development expert from Michigan State, and his staff will be facilitating discussions during the academy.
