Monday, January 23, 2012 Philippi, W. VA – The Alderson-Broaddus Women’s Basketball Team rallied from a huge first half deficit but fell just short as they dropped a home WVIAC contest against Wheeling Jesuit 53-51 tonight at Rex Pyles Arena. The first half saw the Lady Battlers jump out to a quick 3-0 lead before missing on 22 of their next 26 shots as they shot just 17% in the opening frame, including 0-10 from behind the arc as they found themselves trailing 31-14 at the break. A-B got themselves back into things as they outscored the visitors 18-5 over the first 9:15 of the 2nd half to cut the deficit to 4 at 36-32 with 11:45 to play. The Battlers would get no closer than three points until under a minute to go. Trailing by 51-48 with 15 seconds remaining Erica Brooks got free off a screen and nailed a game tying triple. WJU answered back off a timeout as Taneka Lewis got free for layup with 2 seconds left to pull ahead 53-51. Brooks’ last second jumper fell short as time expired. Senior Zipporah Tidwell came off the bench to lead the Lady Battlers with 13 points. Brooks added nine and Amanda Peoples chipped in eight points and 7 rebounds. Cassy Sanderson (21pts) and Taneka Lewis (18pts) combined for 39 of the Lady Cardinal 53 points. A-B returns to action this Thursday as they travel to take on WV Wesleyan. Tipoff is at 5:30pm.
