Lady Battlers Lose Lead, Game to WVWC

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.—Lydia Bridenbaugh poured in a game-high 27 points and the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats held the Lady Battlers to just one field goal in the final 5:10 of action in a come-from-behind victory over Alderson-Broaddus, 72-61, on Thursday evening.

The Battlers (5-13, 3-11 WVIAC) got off to a solid start, holding WVWC (11-5, 8-3) to just 31 percent shooting in the first half in taking a 26-20 lead into the locker room. A Zipporah Tidwell free throw with 13:33 remaining gave A-B its largest lead of the game at 46-33. However, the Lady Battlers managed just four field goals the rest of the game and the Lady Bobcats closed the game on a 16-4 run to steal the victory.

Jamie Kaufman added 19 points for WVWC to go along with Bridenbaugh’s big night. Amanda Peoples led the Lady Battlers with 17 points, and Natalie Smith chipped in 10.

A-B returns to action on Wednesday, February 1 when they travel to Bluefield State College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
