PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Alderson-Broaddus women's volleyball won its fifth consecutive match 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 15-10) against nonconference opponent Slippery Rock University Tuesday night at Rex Pyles Arena.

“We started off the match strong, jumping on Slippery Rock the first two sets, but went through a rough third and fourth sets because of our mistakes,” said Head Coach Carrie Bodkins. “We could have very easily rolled over when SRU battled back, but instead we stepped up to the challenge showing our discipline, focus and ability to win big games!”

A-B won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19. A-B never trailed The Rock in the opening set and compiled a .303 attack percentage.

The Battlers committed 15 attack errors in the third and fourth sets and SRU pulled even and forced the pivotal fifth set.

The teams were neck and neck in the fifth set before the Battler scored five consecutive points to seal the match victory.

Junior Ashley MacDonald led the Battler offense with a team-high 15 kills and collected nine digs. Sophomore Kayla Peterson added 39 assists, five kills and eight digs.

Caroline Houston led SRU with 13 kills and senior Hannah McShea compiled a match-high 22 digs.

A-B travels to Athens, W.Va., to face Concord University Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
