Saturday, April 14, 2012 Philippi, W. Va -- The Alderson-Broaddus Lady Battlers Softball rallied in game 1 and then used strong pitching to win their fourth straight as they swept Ohio Valley 4-3 and 1-0. Game 1 - 4-3 Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th, A-B rallied for three runs to grab a big game 1 victory. Kristy Kellogg led off with a single, stole second, moved to 3rd on a ground out, and scored on a ground out by Kat Powell. Vanessa Bodily followed with a double to left field and tied the game at 3-3 when she scored of a double to left center by Emily Pritt. Pinch runner Whitney Lough put the Battlers ahead 4-3 as Hannah Whitneys grounded was misplaced at 3rd base. Powell retired the side in the 7th to pick up the win. The Florida native gave up 3 earned runs on six hits, striking out two and walking two. Game 2 - 1-0 The Lady Battlers got their lone run in the 3rd inning as Ashley Neff reached with a one out walk. She then stole 2nd, reached 3rd on a groundout and scored on an Adrienne Daniels single. The lone run was all starter Ali Neace would need as she went the full 7 innings, scattering six hits, giving up no runs while striking out nine. Coach Long's squad looks to keep the win streak alive as they host Glenville State in a double header tomorrow. First pitch is 2pm. |
