Saturday, March 31, 2012 Philippi, W.Va. -- Better late than never is a saying that fits Saturday afternoons A-B Softball contest vs. Concord absolutely perfectly. It took the Battlers 13 innings to get on the scoreboard against CU but they did it in epic fashion as they rallied from a three run deficit in the bottom of the 7th to claim a 4-3 WVIAC victory. The win for the Lady Battlers, their first in conference play, helps snap a 7 game losing streak. With the A-B offense struggling for most of the day the knew they were gonna need something big to help ignite things, something big is what they got. Kharrisa Renoth got things going with a one out single. Senior Kat Powell then blasted the 2-0 offering over the fence to cut the deficit to 3-2. Two pitches later the game was tied up as Mary Mayer smacked the CU pitch over the left centerfield fence to knot it at 3-3. After a Karrissa Ezell ground out for the 2nd out, lead off hitter Kristy Kellog would draw the two out walk. Kellog moved to second on the stolen base setting up the dramatic ending. Junior Hannah Whitney blooped the 1-2 change up into shallow right field. Kellog, running on contact, would score easily. Powell went the distance and picked up the win. She gave up 3 runs, 2 earned on five hits while striking out five. |
