MARIETTA, Ohio—The Alderson-Broaddus College men’s and women’s track teams opened their 2012 schedule on Saturday afternoon, competing in the Marietta College Open at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
Other teams present at the meet were Carnegie Mellon University, Marietta College, Muskingum University, Roanoke College, University of Charleston, Washington and Jefferson College, and Washington and Lee University.
Senior Ashley Teets had the best showing for the Battlers on the day, finishing just over two seconds off the leader to place 2nd in the women’s 1-mile run with a time of 5:28.27. Freshman Ashley Shultz also had a top-5 finish for the A-B women, as she placed 3rd in the women’s 5000 meter run with a time of 20:10.34 in her first collegiate competition, and sophomore Aly Carpenter finished 4th in the same event (20:41.23). Cassy Menas placed 4th in the women’s 800M with a time of 2:36.22.
On the men’s side, sophomore John Mundey paced the Battlers with a 5th place showing in the men’s 800M (2:06.79), while senior Josh Ferguson also earned a 5th-place finish in the men’s 1-mile (4:56.12).
The men’s and women’s track teams will return to action on Saturday, January 21when they travel to the Edinboro University for the Al Hall Freedom Games.
