URBANA, Ohio -- The Alderson Broaddus swim programs travelled to Urbana, Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 9 to swim an in conference meet against the Blue Knights of Urbana University. The women swam away with a 111-77 victory and the men suffered a close loss 85-100.
For the women, Rose Wyse (Redding, Calif.) maintained her winning streak in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.50) and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.98). Alexa Pigliacampi (Ormond Beach, Fla.) was the only two-event winner for the Battler women with victories in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.20) and 100-yard backstroke (1:06.65). Other top performances included Cannon Jurrens (Anchorage, Alaska) first in the 1000-yard freestyle (13:05.85); Katie Albert (St. Clairsville, Ohio) second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.52); Isabella Davenport (Enumclaw, Wash.) first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.22).
“The women pulled off another victory which is a great accomplishment,” said Head Coach Nick Hinkle. “We continue to train hard and they continue step up and win races.”
The men’s team fell a few individual victories short of securing a victory. Top performers included Jesse Crowder (North Royalton, Ohio) first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:13.92. ); Ryan Nicklous (Cherry Hill, N.J.) first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.22) and second in the 100-yard back (57.11 ); Tyler Drake (Hobbs, N.M.) second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.25) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.48); Dalton Piper-Harris (Mason, Mich.) second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.20); Brandon Cavanaugh (Ormond Beach, Fla.) second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.25).
“The men swam well but we just could not pull off enough individual victories to win. Urbana has one of the best core group of swimmers in the conference,” Coach Hinkle said. “We will look forward to swimming against them again in February at the conference meet.”
The ABU swim programs travel to Albion, Mich., to take on Albion College and Alma College on Nov. 15 & 16. Coach Hinkle came to ABU from Alma College as an assistant coach.
“I’m really looking forward to our trip to Michigan for the opportunity to swim two quality Div. III programs - one of which I had a large part in growing,” Coach Hinkle said. “Also, it is another great learning tool for our team. The two-day format will prepare them for our mid-season meet at Wooster and the conference meet in February.”
