Tatum's Career-High 24 Lifts Men's Hoops Past Shippensburg 66-57

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Alderson Broaddus men's basketball team captured a 66-57 win over host Shippensburg University Friday evening at Heiges Field House.

Malcolm Tatum (Columbia, Md.) scored a career-high 24 points on 8-for-21 shooting, dished out five assists and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Tatum was 7-for-9 from the free throw line and knocked down a trey Friday.

Tatum was not the only Battler to put together a strong outing versus the Raiders. Senior Adam Kline (Winfield, W.Va.) recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 boards, and Richard Lemon (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 14 points, pulled down seven caroms and swiped three steals.

ABU led 25-24 at the break. Shippensburg's biggest advantage in the opening half was its ability to convert turnovers to points. The Raiders (0-1) capitalized on seven Battler miscues and finished the first 20 minutes with 11 points off turnovers.

Tatum went to work after the break and scored 19 of his 24 points. The blue and gold never trailed Shippensburg at any point in the second half and led by as many as 12 points.

ABU's big men won the battle below the basket against the Raiders. The Battlers (1-1) outrebounded Shippensburg 42 to 32 and scored 14 second chance points.

The Battlers shot 33.8 percent from the field and 72.2 percent from the charity stripe in the first game of the Shippensburg Classic.

ABU faces Mercyhurst University Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
