Monday, January 23, 2012 FAIRMONT, W.Va.—Junior forward Kurklin Bohanon scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers never trailed en route to a 81-70 conference victory over the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons Saturday afternoon. The victory was the 13th straight for the Battlers. A-B (14-2, 11-1 WVIAC) jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead on a pair of Bohanon three-pointers. Fairmont State (6-9, 4-7) fought back, fueled by 30 first half points by Steve Custis and Isaac Thornton, to keep the score within five for most of the half However, A-B closed that half on a 7-0 run to give them a 41-33 halftime lead. Baskets by Bohanon and Roy Brown at the start of the second half extended the Battler run to 11-0, and Fairmont State was never able to come closer than seven points in the second half. Custis poured in a game-high 32 for Fairmont State, and Thornton added 27 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, but the Fighting Falcons only got 11 points from the rest of their team in the loss, with only Custis and Thornton hitting field goals in the first 26 minutes of action. O’Dell Eargle scored 14 to lead the Battlers to a 24-6 advantage in points off the bench, while Nate Barnes and Brown added 13 and 12, respectively. A-B looks to extend their winning streak to 14 in a row when they host Wheeling Jesuit University Monday night at 7:30 PM. |
