FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Alderson Broaddus football team travels into the Bluegrass State Saturday to face Kentucky State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
The Battlers (2-2) defeated Virginia University of Lynchburg last weekend in come-from-behind fashion. Quarterback Weslley Nesmith (Beaver Falls, Pa.) rallied the blue and gold from a 14-3 third quarter deficit with a passing and rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Nesmith showed off his offensive creativity in his first collegiate start, he finished 23-for-44 for 243 yards.
AB’s defense looked strong in the win. Defensive back Michael James (Woodbridge, Va.) snatched his first interception of the season and returned it for 20 yards and the defense compiled five sacks.
KSU was blanked last weekend 42-0 versus Virginia State University, but won its first two games by a combined score of 80-23. The Thorobreds (2-1) run a balanced offense headlined by tailback Jac Lockett. Lockett leads the team with 403 rushing yards and averages 125 yards a game.
The blue and gold look to take an early advantage against a team that has scored just seven points all season in the first quarter of action. KSU has also converted just 8-of-40 third down opportunities (17 percent) all season.
