WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Alderson-Broaddus football defeated Washington and Jefferson College’s JV team 48-12 Monday night at Cameron Stadium.

The Battler offense came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. Running back Brihon Daniels reached pay dirt minutes into the first quarter and quarterback Matt Hommell connected with receiver Jaimaine Sherman at the 10 minute mark to give A-B a 14-0 advantage.

W&J answered the Battler score with a touchdown courtesy of quarterback Kevin Mechas. Mechas tossed a six-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Griffith to cut into the Battler lead, but a failed two-point conversion by the Presidents halted their momentum.

Hommell once again navigated the Battler offense down field following the President score. He targeted Tyrone Temoney with a five yard touchdown pass to give A-B a 21-6 lead after an extra point from Phillip Warner.

Offense was not the only facet of the Battler game plan executing at a high level Monday night. Defensive lineman Zach Barnes victimized the President’s offense and special teams. Barnes was responsible for a blocked punt, two sacks and several tackles in the Battler victory. Defensive end Tyler Hargrove also recorded a sack in the contest.

Sherman once again found his way into the end zone as the first half came to a close. Hommell threw a pass to Sherman to give the Battlers (3-0) a 27-6 lead.

Quarterback Wilson Vaughn rotated into the contest at the end of the half and threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Silafau. The Battlers led 34-6 at the half.

Vaughn added to the Battlers offensive fireworks with a deep 31-yard post pass to Temoney with 9:56 left in the third. The touchdown pass was Vaughn’s second of the evening and Temoney’s second touchdown grab.

Leading 41-6 entering the fourth quarter, Daniels raced for the final Battler score of the evening with 14:56 remaining in the game.

The Presidents added a touchdown with under a minute left in the contest.

The Battlers return to action Monday against Waynesburg University beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
