LATROBE, Pa. -- Alderson-Broaddus football defeated St. Vincent (Pa.)'s JV team Monday 62-0 at Chuck Noll Field.

The Battler defense pitched a shutout versus the Bearcats and extended the team’s streak of holding opponents scoreless to six consecutive quarters.

A-B jumped out to an early lead behind the scoring power of its defense. The Battlers intercepted an errant pass in the SVC end zone to give them a 7-0 advantage 2:05 into the contest.

Norfolk, Va., native Douglas Wesson extended the Battler lead in the first quarter on a three-yard dash into the end zone in the first quarter. Wesson was one of a trio of A-B backs to record rushing scores. Brandon Jones and Thomas Handy also ran for touchdowns in the victory.

Special teams also factored into the lopsided affair, as the Battlers forced a fumbled punt attempt and blocked punt against the Bearcats.

A-B’s passing game was firing on all cylinders against SVC.  Matt Hommell once again led the Battler aerial attack completing 18 of 21 attempts for 211 yards and for three touchdowns. Wesley Nesmith, Adam Wattenbarger and Seth Goheen also made appearances under center for the Battlers.

The Battlers travel to Washington, Pa., next Monday to face Washington & Jefferson College at 7 p.m. Limited in-game statistics were available at the time of this release. Please check the story tomorrow for more detailed game notes.
