PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- The Alderson-Broaddus football team took the field and played its inaugural Blue and Gold Scrimmage Saturday night at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium. The event marked the beginning of the Battlers' first season since the football team disbanded in 1930.

A record-breaking freshman class of 406 students was on hand to watch the White Team defeat the Blue Team 13-10 in the new stadium.

"I want to say thank you to all those people that came to watch tonight," said Head Coach Dennis Creehan. "The kids could feel the tension in the air in pregame warm ups. Because they saw those people up there (on the hill) and they knew the lights would come on. It was game day for them."

The Battlers begin the regular season versus Kentucky Christian August 27 in Grayson, Ky.
