Tuesday, March 13, 2012 AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Alderson-Broaddus Battlers got off to a hot start but managed just two hits after the first inning in falling to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 5-1, Monday afternoon. Left-fielder Jeff Conley blasted a solo home run in the top of the first inning to give the Battlers (2-9) an early 1-0 lead, but A-B wouldn’t score again. UMSL (6-4) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second and plated three more runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to the win. Kyle Oney (0-3) took the loss for the Battlers, allowing two earned runs and striking out five in 5.0 innings of action. Bobby Williams came in to relieve Oney in the top of the 6th, giving up three earned runs (one earned) and striking out five more in his 3.0 innings. Jeremy Butler (2-1) got the complete-game victory for the Tritons, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out nine. Lucas Matecki, John Pilackas, and Joe Wieczkowsi each had two hits for UMSL. The Battlers will continue their spring trip tomorrow when they take on East Stroudsburg at 1:00 PM |
